Chris Cheung is a Hong Kong-based film composer, arranger, and pianist with a versatile background in classical and contemporary music. His compositions blend traditional instrumentation with experimental electronic soundscapes.

Cheung’s feature film work showcases his ability to craft immersive scores. His score for It Remains (2023), directed by Kelvin Shum, stars Anson Lo, Summer Chan, Tommy Chu Pak Hong, David Chiang Da-wei, and Angela Yuen. Critically acclaimed, it features an unconventional blend of ethnic instruments like Didgeridoo and Fujara, processed vocal textures, and extended instrumental techniques, enhancing the film’s suspenseful soundscape. For Reclaim (2021), a Taiwanese feature starring Nina Paw, Johnny Kou, and Ko Chia-Yen, premiered at the 2020 Golden Horse Film Festival, he provided additional music and assisted with the score’s recording by the Capellen Orchestra in the Czech Republic. Cheung wrote additional music cues for The Climbers (2019), a high-grossing Chinese feature starring Ziyi Zhang and Jing Wu. He also served as score editor and composer’s assistant for Operation Mekong (2016), a high-stakes action feature. Additionally, he scored Quan Dao: A Journey of a Boxer (2020), starring Danny Chan and Lam Ka Wah.

His scoring portfolio extends to short films and media, including Interview with Lo Ting: An Oral History Project (2022, IFVA Festival jury selection), The Witch I Love (2021, Asian Summer Festival, Barcelona), and A Hundred Miles Song (2021, starring Shiga Lin and Yatho Wong), as well as documentaries and narrative films for Radio Television Hong Kong and commercials for Watsons and Otterbox.

In theater, Cheung has made significant contributions as a composer and music director. He composed a live soundtrack for 100% Hong Kong, produced by the renowned German experimental theater company Rimini-Protokoll. Additionally, he composed an original theater score for the adaptation of Crime and Punishment at the 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival, showcasing his ability to craft evocative music for the stage.

Cheung’s innovative work includes music design for Garden of Repose at the 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival, a cross-disciplinary program featuring local choir NOEMA, installation art, lighting design, and the L-ISA sound system for an immersive auditory experience.

As a pianist, he earned a distinction in LRSM piano performance (ABRSM, 2011) and studied with Yoko Miwa, Ted Lo, and Linda Yim. He has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, Hong Kong East Kowlook Cultural Center as a jazz pianist. He recently organized a piano trio tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto with violinist Clement Ho, cellist Chloe Ling, and guest Chi Chung Wong. He also featured as a guest keyboardist on Yuval Ron Ensemble’s Unity of the Heart and Sophie Timper’s Maman et Moi. Cheung has worked as a composer’s assistant for Yuval Ron and Hong Kong film composer Henry Lai. He is a long-term collaborator with the Music Children Foundation, arranging music for their curriculum and concerts.

He graduated from Berklee College of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Film Scoring and Professional Music (Jazz Piano Performance). He received the Bei Shan Tang Foundation Scholarship, Berklee World Tour Scholarship, and Piano Department Award during his studies.

張永諾是一位來自香港的電影作曲家、編曲家及鋼琴家，擁有古典與當代音樂的多元背景。其作品融合傳統樂器與實驗電子音景，展現獨特風格。他畢業於波士頓柏克萊音樂學院，取得電影配樂及專業音樂（爵士鋼琴表演）學士學位，並獲頒Bei Shan Tang基金會獎學金、柏克萊世界巡演獎學金及鋼琴系獎項。

張永諾的長片配樂作品包括岑嘉彥執導的《釀魂》（2023），該片由盧瀚霆、朱栢康、姜大偉、袁澧林等主演，配樂因融合Didgeridoo、Fujara等民族樂器及電子音樂而廣受好評，為影片營造懸疑氛圍。他為台灣長片《一家之主》（2021，金馬影展首映，主演鮑起靜、寇世勳、柯佳嬿）編寫附加配樂，並協助錄製捷克Capellen管弦樂團的演奏。他亦為電影《攀登者》（2019，主演章子怡、吳京）創作附加音樂，並在動作片《湄公河行動》（2016）中擔任配樂編輯及作曲助理。此外，他也為網絡電影《拳道：拳擊手的旅程》（2020，主演陳國坤、林家華）創作配樂。

他的配樂作品亦涵蓋短片及其他媒體，包括《與盧亭對談》（2022，香港IFVA影展評審團選片）、《與巫女對談》（2021，巴塞隆納亞洲夏季影展選片）、《瑪利亞的悔改》（2021，主演連詩雅、黃溢濠），以及香港電台的紀錄片，周生生、屈臣氏、Otterbox等品牌廣告。

在劇場，他為德國實驗劇團Rimini-Protokoll的《100%香港》創作現場配樂，並為第52屆香港藝術節的《罪與罰》劇場改編作品創作原創配樂，展現其為舞台打造引人入勝音樂的能力。

他亦為第52屆香港藝術節的跨界節目《憩園》擔任音樂設計師，結合本地合唱團NOĒMA的現場演出、裝置藝術、燈光設計及L-ISA音響系統，打造沉浸式聽覺體驗。

張永諾於2011年獲ABRSM鋼琴演奏LRSM資格（優異級），師從Yoko Miwa、Ted Lo及嚴勵行。他近期於上海林肯爵士中心以及香港東九龍文化中心現場演出，亦曾與著名DJ黃志淙合作，舉辦致敬日本作曲家坂本龍一的鋼琴三重奏音樂會。他亦以鍵盤手身份參與Yuval Ron Ensemble的《Unity of the Heart》及法國獨立音樂人Sophie Timper的《Maman et Moi》。他長期與音樂兒童基金會合作，為弱勢兒童提供音樂課程。
